Root Canals in Dallas, TX

When the nerve of a tooth becomes infected, a successful root canal treatment lets patients in the Dallas, Texas area keep the tooth rather than having it pulled.

What is a Root Canal?

Root canal treatment, also known as endodontic treatment, is the process of removing infected, injured or dead pulp from your tooth. Once this is accomplished, the tooth is sealed to prevent future damage.

Benefits of Root Canals

Removing the nerve does not affect the function of the tooth, as the only function the nerve provides is to distinguish between hot and cold. As such, a root canal will allow you to retain your tooth, and will allow it to function as normal without any discomfort. It can also prevent your tooth from becoming abscessed.

Root Canals Before & After

Viewing these pictures will give you a better idea as to the benefits you can achieve after a root canal. Since each person’s mouth is different, your individual results could vary somewhat.

How are Root Canals Performed?

Dr. Evans will begin by numbing your gums with a topic anesthetic, which will allow him to administer a local anesthetic comfortably. He will then surround the tooth to be worked on with a protective piece of rubber. The pulp and nerve are then extracted with special root canal files. These files allow Dr. Evans to thoroughly scrub the inside of your tooth to ensure all pulp is completely removed. The area will also be flushed from time to time to remove debris. Filling will be added once all matter is completely extracted.

If a crown is also needed, impressions of your teeth will be taken so that one can be created for you at a dental laboratory.  Dr. Evans may need to remove a small amount of decay from your tooth before taking impressions for crowns. Regardless of whether or not impressions are taken, the last step in the process involves sealant being placed over the top of your tooth.
