Porcelain Inlay Before & After

By viewing these before and after photographs of real patients, you can see the remarkable results obtained from having porcelain inlays. Each patient’s individual results may vary.

How are Porcelain Inlays Performed?

Porcelain inlays are placed in a multi-step process that requires two office visits. During the first appointment, Dr. Evans will remove the damaged area of your tooth much as he would do if you had a filling.

A local anesthetic will numb the area and special dental instruments will gently file away decay or damage. Once this is accomplished, an impression of the tooth is taken and sent to a dental laboratory for a customized porcelain inlay. In the meantime, a temporary inlay will be put into place for stability.

On the day you receive your permanent inlay, the temporary one will be removed. You will be given local anesthesia to ensure you feel no discomfort whatsoever.

After removing the temporary inlay, Dr. Evans will put your permanent one in place, then use a special bonding agent to cement it to your natural tooth. A curing light is also used to help harden the bonding agent. Before leaving the office, the tooth will be filed, smoothed and polished to present a natural appearance.

Preparing for Porcelain Inlays

To determine whether porcelain inlays are right for you, Dr. Evans will need to take x-rays and perform a thorough oral examination. If an infection is present, antibiotics could be prescribed so that this infection is eliminated before the procedure.

Porcelain Inlays Recovery

After your first appointment, you may need to avoid eating certain foods to prevent damaging your temporary inlay. This should not be an issue after having your permanent one placed. Your mouth may continue to feel numb for an hour or so after leaving our office during either visit.
